Dan Thompson, or as most call him, “D”, is a
versatile bass player that can run the gamut from
Blues to the heaviest Metal, and Industrial music
on the market. Dan hails from the Midwest,
primarily the Chicagoland area, but has laid down
roots as thick and substantial as his playing from
Milwaukee to Indianapolis, and thru the heart of
this great music region. Many musicians and
acquaintances, state that Dan’s playing is solid,
well rounded, and always open to the styles at
hand, never letting them down when it comes to
holding down the bottom end of any group, a
good foundation from where a great band or song
can be built.
At current Dan is actively working on furthering
his career in the Music Industry, and securing
that elusive grail of this Industry, going full-time,
whether it be working on a studio project , road
work , or as a “for Hire” musician, he is up for any
challenge. The Main group in D's life is
"Plasmata". ""Plasmata" is where D's dark heart
truly lies. Filled with some Chicagoland's most
respected musicians, the ripping guitar lines,
thought provoking lyrics, and earthreal
soundscapes, bringing Industrial, Goth and Punk
back out of the shadows into the night where it
belongs . Proving once again why Chicago is
known as a city of Hard edged , driving music.
Look for more from this in the coming days and
months, with videos, new music and dare I say a
tour in the making. Samples of tunes Dan has
worked on are on the Media page take a listen
something should strike you. Also Dan has/is
working with local Chicago/Midwest groups,
these are “Some Kind Of Jive”, an acoustic
electric combo, doing music from the likes of, the
Dave Matthews Band and U2 with an added
smattering of traditional Celtic spirit. Not only is
he adding his Bass to SKJ but also his Guitar,
mandolin, and singing skills. Next is, You think
with all this aside, he wouldn’t have time but
music is life to this player, and this is his life to
live.
Along with All of this "D" has become a Spector
Bass Guitar's Endorsed Artist, this honor was
bestowed upon him in Sept. 2006, after trudging
through the years of playing and paying quite a
few"dues" to the Gods of Music. Hopefully you
will see him at various Spector events, demos,
and seminars. Look on the contact page for links
to the products "D" uses exclusively.
At current Dan has been a musician for the better
part of 32 years and a Professional for 24 of those,
playing various clubs, bars, and venues in the
Midwest, and he is looking to take it to the next
level. Dan has also studied at Illinois Sate
University where he Minored in Music, and
continued on at the Chicago Musical College in
Roosevelt University , where he studied Jazz
Performance and other structures in order to
make him a more rounded and proficient player.
Also to help in the business end of things Dan has
a Bachelor of Science degree in Theatre
Design/Production emphasizing in Lighting and
Audio, and has worked as freelance rigger, arena
audio tech and stagehand. So no matter what or
where he is ready for anything.
As you can see with all the activities and different
styles of playing Dan can add to your music as
well. Bring that solid bass playing, as Rob Lesko
drummer and co-founder of” Mercy Tree” calls
Dan “ the Quarterback of the Tree Team”, holding
things down, helping the sound move forward to
your next endeavor , you won’t be sorry you did.
